In its first year, the self-service shop captain for the N. C. Division of Motor Vehicles hit a major step. 25 000 buyers have accessed State services at a few Harris Teeters in Wake, Mecklenburg, and Cumberland regions since its release in March.
DMV Commissioner Wayne Goodwin expressed his excitement over the success of our shop pilot. This aircraft is a perfect example of how we have used technology to upgrade our customer service and give customers more options for getting what they need in a timely manner.
The success of the booth pilot can be attributed to the services being offered in a suitable location with hours that far exceed the DMV’s standard Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. model.
Services offered include renewals of driver’s licenses and ID cards copies, as well as upgrades of vehicle registration and property tax bills for new vehicles.
” The advantage of going to a shop to get your company is the ability to walk away with your product in your hand,” said Commissioner Goodwin, “whether that is a temporary paper passport or ID card with your photo on it or the sticker you can take with you and place on your license plate right there in the parking lot of the shopping center.”
There are nine restaurants full, four in Wake and Mecklenburg regions, and one in Cumberland County.

As more kiosks are added to the Soldier Support Center’s Fayetteville location as exchange thresholds are met, including a 10th shop.
The private partnership of NCDMV for the kiosk pilot is Intellectual Technology, Inc. ( ITI). In order to use shops for DMV transactions, ITI has established partnerships with some states and chain of grocery stores.
The state pays no money to the shop aircraft. A$ 4.95 fee per transaction is used to compensate ITI. Additionally, customers are charged a 2 % handling fee for credit/debit cards.
