ROCKY MOUNT –The N.C. Division of Motor Vehicles is seeking applicants for a commissioned contractor to operate a license plate agency (LPA) in Dare Co.
In North Carolina, NCDMV oversees LPAs, but the agencies are managed by private businesses or local governments. The current agency, at 210 U.S Hwy. 64 S., at the Island Pharmacy, in Manteo, will permanently close at 5 p.m. on Dec. 31 after the current operator’s contract ends. The agency has been operated by Rebecca Luton since 1997.
The division’s policy is to open applications to operate a license plate agency after the expiration or end of a contract, or when the need arises for a new or additional agency in a certain county.
Completed applications must be returned to NCDMV no later than Dec. 31. The applications (Form MVR-93I, Form MVR-93B, or Form MVR-93M) can be found on the Connect NCDOT website. Interested applicants may call 919-615-8521 with questions. All applications must now be submitted via email to ApplicationLPA@ncdot.gov. No mail-in applications will be accepted.
LPAs offer vehicle registration services and title transactions, as well as vehicle license plate renewals, replacement tags and duplicate registrations. Currently, 125 license plate agencies operate in North Carolina.
Four nearby license plate agencies offer service Monday through Friday, except on state holidays.:

• Engelhard, 34910 U.S. Hwy. 264 (Spencer’s Furniture Store), from 9 a.m.-5 p.m.
• Elizabeth City, 1545 N. Road St., Suite E (Country Club Plaza), from 9 a.m.-5 p.m.
• Moyock, 257 Caratoke Hwy. (N.C. Hwy. 168), from 8 a.m.-5 p.m.

Spamming advertisement posts for services
Do you restore plates? Do you sell low-number tags? Do you have an eBay store? That’s neat! And we believe you should get a shot to showcase your services. However, these sorts of… entrepreneurial posts can often lead to spam, so we’re restricting this sort of posting to once every three months. You must use the “Advertisement” tag if it is a post.
Posting US government plates in collections
U.S. government/diplomat plates come in many forms and can be quite interesting. However, the ones from the past 40 years are also illegal for U.S. civilians to possess. As such, posts like this will be removed. Posts depicting U.S. government/diplomat plates on vehicles, however, are allowed.

This website is for discussing license plates in one form or another.
Common repost
Some plates, especially those found in memes, are shared here constantly. We will remove any as we find them. Good rule of thumb: if you found the photo because it was re-shared online, it’s probably something we’ve already seen. This also applies to QQ plates and sovereign citizen plates.
